Palau War Canoe

This is a model of an authentic Palau war canoe, kabekel. It
was crafted by master carver Franz Harumi Teriong of Airai State. It has
32 paddles that also serve as spears; and one oar. It includes a bailer
(brind), a club (brotch), a hand spear (orus)
and two long spears (biskang). The main hull of this canoe is
made from Chermall tree (Hibiscus tiliaceus). |
