The establishment of the new Natural History Section has provided an opportunity to acquire old plant specimen collections from the former Division of Conservation and Entomology. These plant specimens were collected during the Trust Territory era, dating back to the late 1950s. An on-going project is a community-based ethnographic study on indigenous environmental knowledge, uses and significance of culturally important vascular plants in Babeldaob Island. Plants obtained from this study, including those inherited from the Division of Conservation and Entomology, will make up the first set of plant specimen collection for the new herbarium.
